Haru means Spring in Japanese. Spring is the time of greatest transformation in our natural world. I remember my first winter in Alaska. Towards the end of April, when the melting mess of ice, water, mud, and snow had finally given way to green ground, I felt sunlight and air on my arms. What an amazing feeling! After seven months of sweaters, my skin was once again in direct contact with the world. Photo by Chris Arend |
