With daily reports of gun-related violence in the news, raising a child in the world today is a daunting task. Boys are particularly susceptible, and socially conditioned, to gun usage. Toy guns have been a hotly debated issue in our home; one that feels like an attempt to hold back the tide. Antique linens suggest a history of women and mothers. The thread that depicts the line drawings of my son's toy guns is my own hair. Threading the needle with each hair, I stitched, couched, and conceptually quilted my many hours of contemplation on the wisdom of toy guns. |
