Every March, eager to get my hands dirty, the big dig begins. As does the war against elemental forces. By June, in this hot and humid place, the biting insects are in charge. I realize I cannot share this space. Within days, I throw in the towel. The poppy series, it turns out, is a much more pleasant way to garden. My fascination with poppies started as photographs. The photographs became art quilts and now take on forms I could never have imagined then—in or out of the garden. |
