My Corner of the World
◄ ► Purnululu #7 • Alison Schwabe |
Heading my bucket list is the deeply weathered banded sandstone rock formation known as 'Purnululu', in Australia's northwest Kimberley region. Within The Bungle Bungles National Park these dome like structures rise sentinel-like from gently rolling plains. Aboriginal people are known to have occupied the area for up to 40,000 years, and their word 'purnululu' means 'sandstone'. The area is highly culturally significant to their descendants, the modern Djaru and Kija people. |
