Portals: Past, Present, Future symbolizes the evolution of quilts. The outside ring represents the beginning of my sewing passion when my mother taught me embroidery stitches as a girl. The inner portal represents the techniques used by women in quilting bees, telling stories in their heirloom quilts. The center portal represents the independence of fine art quilters, whose creations go beyond the utilitarian bed quilts of our ancestors. The crystal at the very center represents the spirit that leads us forward, lights our path, and directs our way. Photo by Bill Lembke |
